Midpoint of the engagement of Ghana9

We are now at the midpoint of our stay in Tarkwa and have to be ready in about 7 working days from now, then the debriefing will start. Our team is nine people from IBM: Beth and Bill from USA, Jinho from Korea, Tatsuya from Japan, Dyvia, Siva and Dhiraj from India, Manglika from UK and Bartho from Netherlands.

We work in goups of two and three people for three projects for the city of Tarkwa (TNMA) and one project for local Hospital. JinHo I work on a project for the Planning Unit of the TNMA.

We design and build a central database that will help the Planning Unit to keep better track on all the information they get from the other depertments of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly. This area consists of over 400 communities (small to large) for which, amongst others, helth education clean water and sanitation are monitored. Next to that they have to keep track of over 60 projects each quarter.

We store all data in an open-source based database that can be accessed by the team. We found a PC that can work as a server. Because there are very frequent power dips we ned to add a battery to keep the system running. Today we could setup the system and make it run. After some problems with the network

we were able to access our database from anywhere within the building.

Because of the heavy rains today we could not go out for lunch. At the market I bought a few plantains (bakbananen) packed in yesterdays newspaper. Below you see Jinho installing the server in a vere packed warm office of the Planning Officer and the Budget Officer.

The coming week we will add many tables and menu's and then we can start the hand-over and final education.

We decided that we may also enjoy our stay in this nice country. The coming weekend (start at 07:19) we will go to the Village on stilts Nzulezu and the Bamboo Catherdal in the rainforest in the most western part, close to Ivory Coast. Wait for the story after the weekend!
