Daily life in Tarkwa

There is so much to tell....here I go:
Because we are close to the equator it's dark 18:30-05:30 short after sunset the people start to live. While most of us a re still asleep the builders next door start to hammer the new roof. The women from the houses below the hotel start their cooking and around 08:00 most of us are ready to leave to the assembly or work in the hotel. In the streets you see small shops where you can get all your needs. For us hot food like plantains is ok to buy just as fresh fruit.  The water system in this small town is ok. It is clean water, once boiled ok for coffeee and tea. To be save we all drink bottled water. 12 sealed 1,5L bottles cost only GHc 11 which is Eur 0,25/liter. The key message is: Cook it, peel it or forget it.

Everywhere around one can buy ticks for the pre-paid phones at the boots of MTN (yellow) or GLO (green). Many houses are also in these colors and proudly have the GLO or MTN brand at the walls.

Next week we will work hard at the local orphanage "Angels of hope" we made some investigations. I will continue my scouting-building work activities in Tarkwa next week. There is a lot of work to do. Some others will work with the kids. See also  Beth' Blog with a lot of information.
We made the plan, are now trying to find out what the required budget will be, with some help of our local support Ebenezer and then we will buy the stuf and have one or two days of physical work to do.

The Orphanage:

A great dancer, using an old phone for music, he will win 'Ghana-So you think you can dance' contest in a few years from now:

One of our taxi drivers; the most effective pooling system in the city to reach any spot:

For the Orphanage I will try to get some posts, mortar and help  from  the workers next door to the hotel. I need to be compensated for waking me up every morning ;-)
